Working with the Fair Folk is not a straightforward or entirely safe matter. Just like people, these beings are all different, have their own likes and dislikes, and can be quick to take offence, with dire consequences. However, many of the cautionary tales about the terrible havoc that the Fair Ones can wreak are perhaps designed to deter people from benefiting from what can be a very fruitful relationship, if sensibly and respectfully conducted.

Perfect fairytale mushroom on the heath, 23 October 2023.

Hello again lovely friends. Welcome to this ‘between the moons’ fairy extravaganza!

That might sound a little random, so let me explain.

I’ve been working on some pixie-sized pieces of writing in support of a new art project. One by one, they will eventually find their way onto Instagram as daily posts, but as the pile grew I thought it might be nice to string a few of these knobbly nuggets together to give you a sneak preview.

During the last couple of days, fleeting rays of sunshine have inspired me to pop out down the lane in the hope of a glimpse of Faery. Or at the very least to take photos of spots where, just a moment before, I might have witnessed one of these wispy beings swinging between bent bracken stem and twisted honeysuckle rope.
