Hello lovely between-the-moons friends.
Being so close to the coast, it’s not often that we get proper winter weather here. But the last few days brought such a transformation to my little corner of Norfolk that I wanted to share some of its magic with you before the moment passes and the season shifts.
The alder carr, Crostwight, Norfolk. 19 January 2024.
Time tipping into the afternoon, the sun is bright and the sky an almost unreal blue. I decide to walk along the lane to check whether the puddles are still frozen and whether the road itself, while it casts an innocent gaze, may yet be glazed with treachery.
The morning has seen the deepest frost of the winter so far and unless the ice has melted away I won’t be going out in the car for much-needed provisions. Before my feet have even crunched beyond the entrance to the yard with its sparkling gravel I am fairly certain of the answer. A few steps into the lane and I relax into the sharp clear afternoon. I won’t be driving anywhere.
