Dear Mary, I shall treasure your words. Thank you so much. You have brightened MY day with them. I’m always learning too but what excites me is when two (or lots of) ideas suddenly collide and set off new trains of thought and adventure. So I shall keep on doing that … and it’s truly lovely to know that we’re in it together x
It’s lovely to hear that things turned around for you! It’s a cliche but certainly true that you never know what lies around the corner; so many small beauties and so many adventures to look forward to.
I am going to try to weave St Lucy into my wobbly wheel of discombobulated seasons. Not sure how, but I’ll definitely cook something using saffron! And maybe some eyes in a summery way. The mind boggles.
I’m also going to try to remember to look for witches brooms in birch trees when they are bare.
I’m in awe of the way you have so many good ideas for adapting the northern hemisphere traditions to the season where you find yourself, Robyn! I’m sure you’ll find a way, and because it will be so carefully considered it will have all the more meaning for you.
Beautiful, filled my mind with memories of being widowed and needing a focus to get up each morning. Your writings inspire and call forth much beauty. Thank you so much
Thank you so much for your kind words Ambermoggie, and I’m sorry for your loss. I hope the writing wasn’t too painful for you as it resonated with your experience. For me it was the getting used to the temporary holiday-let home that really necessitated finding a joyful ritual. Luckily I found The Old Shop in the January and moved here in early June and after that everything changed. Not exactly for the better in lots of ways! But that’s a story for another time …
Thank you Imogen for the lovely Wild Advent piece. I learned so much about St Lucy and her special day . Thank you for sharing your lovely part of the world and your personal stories ,the recipe and some some great music choices. I am partial to Loreena Mckennitt she is from Manitoba where I live. Advent is a lovely season I love the light and sunsets we have on the prairies, the snowstorms and sundogs caused from the extreme cold and bright sunlight. My belated condolences on the loss of your beloved one.
Thank you Denise for your lovely words and encouragement. I love the evocative way you speak of your wild prairie landscape. It makes me want to see it! I will try to listen to more Loreena McKennitt as I don’t know her work very well. I did choose one of her songs as the soundtrack for an Instagram reel. It had a haunting melody and I’d really like to find it again - so thank you for the reminder.
That was a most beautiful and wonderful read. I learn so much from you Imogen.
You lighten the darkest days with your knowledge and peaceful words
I always thought of witches brooms as something completely different but not the idea banded around.
Thank you for making all seasons right and proper.

It reminded me that I did move on and hard to believe it would happen. Or that I would remarry an equally lovely person.

I’m re-reading posts for winter and I have decided to make my pixie-sprite a felt cloak too! I shall do that today
