Yes, the atmosphere on that side is so nebulous and hard to pin down. I don’t think any photograph could really capture the feeling, you just have to go and see what happens. Certainly a place of connection.
This is fascinating! I did not know of this folklore of churches, as we don’t have medieval churches in the U.S. (nor am I a churchgoer). I do love folklore and folkways however, and your project makes me smile. Maybe no devil is disappointing, bit of a relief on the other hand. 🙂
I must admit this was educational as I know nothing of medieval churches ( having never encountered one) and very little about churches in general. So the south door/ north door situation is not something I knew about. Is this still relevant to more modern churches?
