Those traditions are so fascinating and sorely missed I'm sure in this disconnected modern age. Thank you for your beautifully evocative words!

Thank you Geneviève for your kind words. Yes I agree we are definitely missing some of the unbridled fun and ritual that bonded communities and gave people a real sense of belonging to a place. I’m sure they would have felt we had things all wrong if the stations of the year weren’t being marked in their right and fitting way.

Just catching up! I loved this Imogen … your writings brought back memories of many harvest festivals in church, where we walked down from our primary school with all of our little offerings for the table. I loved the hymns which accompanied this autumn time, and now, in my new Suffolk home, I can gaze out across the ploughed and fallow field behind my window.

With a busy week behind me, I’ve been saving this to read today when I’m a bit more relaxed. I loved the oak tree barn owl and learning about all the old Norfolk harvest traditions. I’m welcoming the nut brown maiden especially the low warm autumn light she brings with her.

The Nut Brown Maiden is such an evocative image for September. So much poetry in your words here and so much artful conjuring of the images of the past. This is such a glorious time of year but I’m never thrilled how quickly the Ice Maiden or is she a Crone? takes hold!
